Andy and Jan Maglio
Action Lock & Key Inc. was founded by Andrew (Andy) J Maglio in 1980. It was a small storefront in a mall on Lake St in Roselle. With one old truck and his father, Fred, to help answer phones for the first year. Andy worked many hours day and night to establish the business. Within five years, the business grew enough to hire employees. Often, Andy’s younger brother Vinny would ride along learning the trade and is still at Action Lock & key today, passing on his talents to others. The business continued to grow as the economy was booming. One of Andy’s favorite sayings was when the economy is good, people are locking their things up, and when the economy is bad, people are locking their things up; this is a win-win. By 1986, Andy had met and fallen in love with his wife Jan, who began working with him at the shop just prior to their marriage in 1987. Jan did all the accounting receivables, payables, payroll, taxes, insurance, and all record keeping for Action Lock & Key. Along with the growth of the business, so did Andy and Jan’s family. AJ was born in June 1988. Even as a baby, AJ spent a great deal of time at Action Lock & Key with Mom and Dad. When AJ came of age, he would start riding along with his uncle Vince. With his dad’s mechanical talents already a big part of his genetics, it wasn’t long before AJ started exhibiting his own talents and took the State test to become CML (Certified Master Locksmith). Yes, this is truly a family business. After 42 years, Jan and Andy retired and are now living in the UP. The business is still in the good hands of the younger minds of the family, who wish to carry out the legacy of Action Lock and Key as a family-operated business. Jan and Andy, thank you all for your support over the years, great friendships, and experiences. Bless you all!
Louie, Charlie, Annie, and Harley
Our border collies, who take turns coming to the shop, fight to get out of the house in the morning, knowing that one of them will be spending the day at Action Lock & Key Inc. Harley is the baby and will play ball with you as long as you will throw it! Whether five times or fifty times, he will catch that ball and bring it back to do it all over again. Annie, on the other hand, thinks everyone comes in to see HER. When the bell goes off, signaling that someone has come in, she is up and running. It's as if she's saying: "I'll get it!" There is one warning that comes with Annie, and that is she can't control her licker! Please note: we understand that not everyone likes dogs, so we do put our pups in their cage if someone is afraid of or wary of being around them.
Vinny
Vinny became interested in locksmithing as a young boy, hanging with his big brother Andy, riding in the truck, and going on service calls with him. He quickly caught on, becoming quite proficient in his talents. Vinny expanded his skills by learning how to manipulate, drill, and repair safes, install and repair door closers, setting up and install master key programs and electrical security devices. His thirty-plus years have made him our lead technician and specialist on high-security devices. He is also one of our Harley-loving guys and knows a whole lot about motorcycles.
AJ
AJ is a younger version of his dad, Andy, and the right hand of his Uncle Vinny. This young man managed to manipulate a safe open while playing in his dad's shop at age 5! Lucky? Maybe, but his talents far exceed any lucky chances. AJ has a natural talent for seeing, creating, fixing, and comprehending how things go together in order for them to work properly. Second only to his uncle, at 30 years old, he has the mind, talent, and experience of technicians twice his age. Not only is AJ an extremely talented locksmith, but he is proficient in all the many facets of the interior and exterior workings of Action Lock and Key Inc.
Dawn
After being with us for 15 years, Dawn still plugs away at her desk every day. As our bookkeeper extraordinaire, Dawn keeps track of all incoming service tickets, puts them into the computer, pays them out, totals deposits, and records ALL customer information while helping to answer phones, keeps track of files, and processes UPS shipments. Our girl Friday works hard all week long as her fingers sing across her keyboard and adding machine. We affectionately refer to her as our "Money Queen."
Mike
Mike is the first face that greets our customers when they come through our doors or call on our phones. Mike handles our walk-in customers, dispatching and ordering inventory. With a smile on his face, he is our jack-of-all-trades to be able to handle a busy shop while customers are calling to book service calls and technicians are calling for additional information on their jobs. Mike will have longevity with us as a very valued employee.
Mark
Mark is the newest member of the Action team. Being trained in the shop by Andy and Mike and in the field by Vinny, AJ, and Joe, Mark is a sponge, taking in decades of locksmith knowledge. He is showing his value with his previous experiences in machinery and with customers, whether it's in the shop or in the field.
Steph
Steph is the newest member of the Action Lock & Key team but is no stranger to the Action Lock & Key family. Mike and Mark are training her in day-to-day tasks in the shop. At the same time, Vinny and AJ teach her how to become a great field technician. After an almost 15-year career in the US Army, she is excited to learn all of the aspects of the family business. Steph’s experience in the medical field gives her an edge because she is well-versed in the use of small tools and fine detail work. This is making her training quick and beneficial. She is always eager to learn and use her newly taught skills to further help the customers of Action Lock & Key.
